Setting Up Netscape Communicator 4.X

We are now going to setup the options in Netscape Communicator. You will not be online so that you can ignore any network error messages and click OK on them if they pop up.

  1. Start up Netscape Communicator (usually from the Start menu or by Double-clicking the Netscape Communicator icon on your desktop).
  2. Click the Stop button to stop Netscape; this is to try and avoid any network error messages.
  3. In the pull down menu bar at the top of Netscape, click on Edit and then select Preferences from the drop down menu. This will open a window called Preferences.
  4. On the left-hand side of the preferences window, Click on the plus sign ("+") next to Mail & Groups. This opens up a list of choices directly below Mail & Groups.
  5. Click on Identity and a new set of choices appears on the right-hand side of the preferences window.
  6. Enter your name as you wish people to see it on your email in the Your name field. You may put anything you wish here.
  7. Enter your email address in the email address field. This should be your_name@netkonnect.net, and this name should appear on the configuration sheet you received from Network Konnections.
  8. All of the other boxes are optional.
  9. On the left-hand side, click on Mal Server under Mail & Groups and a new set of choices appears on the right-hand side of the preferences window.
  10. Enter your Mail server user name, this is your email name minus the address. If your email name is your_name@netkonnect.net, only enter your_name in this field.
  11. Enter nki001.netkonnect.net for the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server.
  12. Enter nki001.netkonnect.net for the Incoming mail server.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Everything is now set up. To open and use the mail at anytime, simply click on Communicator from the drop down menu bar and select Messenger Mailbox.
  15. Exit Netscape.
